Finally, the reviews are given on a scale of 0-5. 0, of course, being unwatchable. 1, being terrible. 2, being not great. 3, being okay. 4, being great and 5, being epic! Wrath of Man – 4 out of 5

I watched the trailer for Wrath of Man and was sold on it but, in all honesty, I was all-in the second I heard it was a Guy Ritchie film that had Jason Statham in it.  The trailer could have literally been nothing more than a title card on a black background saying, “Guy Ritchie made a new movie and it has Jason Statham in it.”  I would have watched that and said, “I’m excited.”  Well, I recently checked out the film and really dug it!

For some reason, Post Malone is in the film.  Not that he was bad but
I wasn't expecting him at all.

Oh, Holt is here.  He is always a friendly, sweet,
and kind man.  There is no way he is actually
a bad guy.

One day, a quiet and very intense man by the name of Patrick Hill (Statham) applies for a job at an armored truck company.  There he is trained by the likes of a man who is nicknamed Bullet (Holt McCallany) and one called Boy Sweat Dave (Josh Hartnett).  One day on the job, the truck is robbed, and Hill quickly dispatches them and rapidly becomes notorious in the company.  Little did any of his coworkers realize that Hill is a mysterious but extremely powerful man who took the job in order to investigate the employees after a robbery of the trucks takes the life of his son.  Once he finds the man responsible, he is going to let nothing stand in his way from extracting vengeance and killing the individual.

Dishing out the pew-pews.

Just looking at this photo of Statham giving
this look scared the shit out of me.  Literally.
I have poop-filled pants right now.

Wrath of Man is a fairly intense film with a pretty straight forward story.  However, Guy Ritchie is able to make this story feel dynamic by throwing the audience right into Hill’s plan.  The film opens up with his character applying and training for this job at the armor truck company.  You obviously know something is going on because of the look in the man’s eye but you really aren't treated to his motives until later in the film.  Ritchie isn’t a stranger to captivating ways of exploring a story and developing characters and this film once again showcases this strength.  The way the story develops and unfolds is incredibly engaging and is rarely ever boring.  I will admit that there were some small moments before the film hits it bombastic final act that did feel slow but, overall, the film had this great pace and revealed its tale in a very engaging and addicting way.

I would also like to compliment the film on the cozy sweaters Statham
sports.

I feel like I am seeing Rob Delaney all the
time now ever since Deadpool 2.

One thing that struck me from the moment this film started was how utterly intense the feature was.  Everything from the performance of Statham to the score to the action had this heavy and very striking intensity to it and it made the product very commanding.  The score that accompanied what you were see was very boisterous and booming with its cues.  It made even the most simplistic of scenes feel absolutely imperative.  And when I say that Statham was intense, that is putting it mildly.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen him so reserved before.  Statham is a very charismatic performer and he has always had this great balance of being a legit badass with this killer charm.  However, in Wrath of Man, he has this quiet reserve that not only spoke to the pain he was going through but also excellently showed his laser focus on his quest for vengeance.  I would also like to add that it was sometimes just unnerving to see him this way as he absolutely nailed the portrayal of a man who is out for blood but doing it in the most cool and calculated way.

Intensity or just tired of all the bullshit?

One element that genuinely surprised me was the performance of Scott Eastwood.  I’ve never really found the man to be that commanding of an actor and have found his performances and all-around screen presence to be incredibly bland and flat.  I won’t argue that he is truly astounding in this film, but his character is an unlikeable little asshole and he performed it quite well.  Maybe that is what he is best at?  I don’t know but he did a great job at it.

Did this make me a fan of him?
No.

Wrath of Man isn’t your typical Guy Ritchie film but also isn’t too far off of what he does best.  This film is him presenting the crime story more as a thriller and not as a slick, almost dark comedy like we’ve seen from him in the past.  And that isn’t a bad thing.  Instead, it is another example of him showing how versatile he really can be as he made a film that is heavy with its intense atmosphere but also incredibly engaging and brutal with its story.  Add in a killer performance (pun not intended) from Jason Statham and I found another Guy Ritchie film that I absolutely dug!
