Movie Review - F9: The Fast Saga

Gambar
This film was released the week of the 20th anniversary of The Fast and the Furious (2001). This is just by coincidence. The film was originally planned for release last year in the spring but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It's technically the tenth film in this franchise, but the number nine in its title ignores the spin-off film, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019) . I don't know why it would be ignored or even considered a spin-off. It might be seen as such because it's a film that doesn't involve either of the two male protagonists in the original 2001 film. Director and co-writer Justin Lin first started on this franchise with The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006). Lin then went on to helm Fast & Furious (2009), Fast Five (2011) and Fast & Furious 6 (2013). Lin has directed half of the entries in this franchise. In terms of franchises, this one wants to be seen on the same level as the James Bond franchise, the Miss

TV Review - Loki (2021)

This is the third series to premiere on Disney Plus to be a spin-off of Avengers: Endgame (2019), which is apart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe or MCU, the live-action adaptation of Marvel Comics and its characters that are mainly big-budget blockbusters. Disney has decided to bring that same big-budget blockbuster feeling to the small screen. It makes this show and the two before it look incredible and more specifically look expensive. The cinematography, the production design and visual effects look expensive, better than it would in a network television show. The one exception is Episode 3, which looks like CGI vomit. Nonetheless, it can also afford top talent in terms of actors. Therefore, the show on those levels will have no complaints. My only complaints are from a story standpoint and some character standpoints. Tom Hiddleston ( Crimson Peak and Midnight in Paris ) stars as Loki, a magical being who has various powers like shapeshifting and the ability to create illusions,

"Vicious Fun" self-aware fun for genre fanatics

Vicious Fun (2021) The premise of “Vicious Fun” could doubly function as a horror critic’s biggest dream and worst nightmare. Writer James Villeneuve and director Cody Callahan (2021’s “The Oak Room”) clearly have a reverence for ‘80s horror, their premise—a horror journalist practically enters his own horror movie—so niche that it couldn’t possibly be imagined by anyone less than a true-blue fan. Though it's vicious when it needs to be, "fun" is the name of the game for "Vicious Fun," which is as amiable as a horror-comedy can get with serial-killing 12-steppers and intestine strangulation. A half-grating, half-endearing Evan Marsh, sporting a Marty McFly vest, plays Joel, a deputy assistant editor for horror magazine “Vicious Fanatics” in 1983. He has arrived home from a cut-short interview with a director about his latest slasher when he expects to hang out with his housemate and crush Sarah (Alexa Rose Steele). She’s just gotten home from a date with Bob

TV Review - Love, Victor: Season 2

This is yet another example of a TV series whose first season didn't impress or even intrigue me all that much, but the second season represents a vast improvement. Almost every problem I had with the first season, this season rectifies, somewhat. There is another problem that the series loses focus, as it feels it needs to maintain narratives and plot lines for all the characters introduced last season. It does so perhaps to fill out an order of ten episodes. By doing that, the series maintains a diversity of characters who can appeal to a variety of demographics. However, this is on its face a series about a young gay teen dealing with the aftermath of his coming out, as he explores his first same-sex relationship. That should be enough, but there is a circle of friends that the show feels it has to continue to juggle episode after episode. There are times when that's appreciated and other times it feels like padding or dragging from the main story. Michael Cimino reprises h
